Its not a surprise that the most common Human Rights Violations in Moldova is torture or other I’ll threatened or even detention. The Project “Stop Torture in Moldova” aims to contribute to the realization of the freedom from torture, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment in Moldova. This objective will be achieved by increasing legal awareness and providing consultancy on protection mechanisms for victims of torture and arbitrary detention, both among the general public and individuals affected by human rights violations. Additionally, the project will focus on relevant Moldovan authorities, monitoring their efforts to strengthen and uphold safeguards against torture and ill-treatment in police custody and the penitentiary system, to combat impunity, and to prevent further violations.
The website will serve as a practical tool to help the public identify instances of torture and distinguish them from other forms of degrading treatment or punishment. It will offer clear, actionable guidance for victims of torture, ill-treatment, and unlawful detention on how to defend their rights. Additionally, the site will provide comprehensive information on national, regional, and international mechanisms available for the protection of victims—highlighting the relevant institutions to contact, the steps for asserting rights within Moldova, and the procedures for submitting complaints to bodies such as the European Court of Human Rights and the UN Human Rights Committee.
Equally important, the website will provide detailed information on methods for documenting cases of torture, including the proper use of medical examinations, reports, and other medical records in both national and international legal proceedings. It will serve as a centralized resource, compiling information on organizations actively addressing the issue of torture, the outcomes of their efforts, and directories of legal professionals specializing in such cases. Additionally, the site will highlight recommendations made by international organizations to the Moldovan government regarding the eradication of torture, along with updates on the government’s actions to implement those recommendations.
Given that the vast majority of citizens in Moldova lack awareness of effective protection mechanisms against torture, the project’s primary target group and direct beneficiaries include: the general public, victims of torture and ill-treatment, detainees, suspects, and accused individuals—essentially anyone on the territory of Moldova, including the Transnistrian region.
Lets stop the inhumane torture of the Moldovan citizens!!!!
